I feel compelled to write this letter. I have worked in law enforcement for 25 years, serving in a Detective Division for over 18 years. During that time I have been involved in a number of high profile cases. I have worked with a number of Assistant District Attorneys (ADA’s) and District Attorneys (DA’s), working with the Jefferson County DA’s Office on a daily basis.
Lately I have seen a large number of good cases, developed by my detectives and submitted to the DA’s Office for charges, that the DA’s Office has chosen not to prosecute. I understand that the DA’s Office is understaffed and at times is overwhelmed with complaints; however, I believe that good cases need to be taken into court to hold criminals accountable for their behavior.
When the DA’s Office takes a case to court, you would like to think that the prosecutor has a good change to get a conviction. I have personally observed ADA Peter Tempelis in court and feel that with Peter Tempelis as DA, the Jefferson County DA’s Office would not be in a good position to successfully prosecute cases and obtain convictions of criminals. I have found Peter Tempelis to be unorganized and unable to present his cases in a clear, understandable fashion to a jury. Because of his inadequacies in court, I believe he is not ready or capable of assuming the demanding role of being the Jefferson County District Attorney.
I have personally seen Susan Happ in court and I have been impressed with her organization, knowledge of law and tenacity. As DA, she will bring these same skills to the Jefferson County DA’s Office; in turn the DA’s Office will have a better chance of obtaining convictions of criminals, which serves the people of Jefferson County.
As you have noticed, numerous law enforcement personnel from Jefferson County are endorsing Susan Happ, which should send a clear message to the people of Jefferson County: Susan Happ is the most qualified candidate for the position of Jefferson County District Attorney.
Sincerely,
Lawrence Lee |
