In the twenty years I have been eligible to vote, I have always voted Republican. Nov. 4 th I will break that by voting Susan Happ for DA.
A District Attorney is a local official who prosecutes alleged criminals. The top law enforcement officer in the county one could say. They represent or act as the people’s attorney in the courtroom and should possess such qualifications as knowledge of the laws, leadership, experience, organization and cooperation with law enforcement. Susan Happ has these qualities.
Susan also has a personal reason for wanting to keep our community safe in that she grew up here, has many friends and family here and is raising her child here in Jefferson.
It is not as uncommon for attorneys with a background in defense to run for DA as people think. They get litigation and investigative experience, which provides for a more thorough approach to convicting criminals. The experience needs to come from somewhere. My own father ran for DA 38 years ago in Jackson County. His background was as a defense attorney. Unfortunately his life ended tragically during his campaign, but my point is defense attorneys do run for DA, do follow the same laws and do get elected.
Some states require at least four or more years as a licensed attorney to qualify to run for this office. There is a reason for this. The people want an experienced, seasoned attorney.
The run for Jefferson County DA is not about gun laws, abortion, or the economy. It is about electing the best person to put criminals away and keeping our streets safe by following the laws.
While John McCain still has my vote for President…Susan Happ has won my vote for Jefferson County DA.
