I write this letter in support of Sue Happ for District Attorney. I am proud to serve as Sue’s treasurer in her campaign. History tells me that being overly involved in politics can be detrimental to business. But, this particular election for Jefferson County District Attorney compelled me to become involved.

I’ve known Sue for most of her life. She worked for me while she was also working for the Jefferson County Circuit Court judges, and trying to pay her way through law school. She also worked as a live-in assistant for mentally handicapped women while she was in law school and at the same time making the Dean’s List. Sue grew up in Jefferson and has been involved in our community her entire life. I have had the privilege of working with her on the Board of Tomorrow’s Hope and as our attorney.

After Sue graduated from law school, I was glad to see her come back to Jefferson to practice law and to develop into a committed and respected member of our community – much like her parents, Duane and Lois Quale. The Quales have a lot of respect around here – they were teachers in Jefferson for 30 years and a valued part of our community.

Sue’s Dad, Duane, was one of the hardest workers, I know, and when he passed away ten years ago, our entire community felt the loss because of the lives he had touched. Sue has the same work ethic as her parents and has earned a similar respect from her community.

Most importantly, she has earned respect from the law enforcement. Now these are the folks whose toes she’s been stepping on for the last ten years, so that’s saying a lot. Unlike her opponent, Sue hasn’t been in the D.A.’s Office working alongside law enforcement with a common goal in mind. Instead, she’s given them a hard time now and then, but they still respect and support her as the most qualified candidate to be our next District Attorney. I hope you will join me and law enforcement in voting for Sue Happ on November 4th.
